Our Dance Styles

Social Dancing

Social dancing is partner dancing that is informal, relaxed, and danced for the enjoyment of the partners - rather than to meet the criteria of a dance school or an audience. Social dancing is danced for enjoyment, socialization, recreation and health. The test for social dancing success is how much the dance partners have enjoyed the dance - not how they have danced in the eyes of others or how "correctly" they have danced.

Children's Program

Dancing is an exciting way for children to develop important skills that lead to success both at school and throughout their lives. Stop in at SDC today to sign up for our Children's Program. Whether your children are learning to dance for fun or to compete in Youth Dancesport competitions, we can help them achieve their goals.  Mini Star class is for children 6 to 9 years old.  Rising Star class is for boys and girls 10 to 13 years old. We recommend taking both Basic Ballroom (Wednesdays) and Latin (Saturdays) styles of dancing to receive the most benefit.

Wedding Dance

Your first dance as husband and wife will be the most memorable dance of your life, and we are excited to help you make that moment as fun and stress-free as possible.  With our Wedding Dance Package of 5 private lessons, our professionals can choreograph your wedding dance to the music of your choice. We are happy to help with first dance choreography, as well as father-daughter dances and mother-son dances.

American Smooth

A category of dances in American Style ballroom competitions. It includes Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese waltz. Previously Peabody was also included.

This category loosely corresponds to the Standard category of International Style ballroom. However, Smooth differs from Standard in its inclusion of open and separated figures, whereas Standard makes exclusive use of closed positions.

International Ballroom

Ballroom dance is a set of partner dances, which are enjoyed both socially and competitively around the world. Because of its performance and entertainment aspects, ballroom dance is also widely enjoyed on stage, film, and television.

International Latin

Latin dance is a general label, and a term in partner dance competition jargon. It refers to types of ballroom dance that (with few exceptions) originated in Latin America.

The category of Latin dances in the international dancesport  competitions consists of the Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble, and also the Jive of United States origin.
